21 January 2010 Panic at SWPP Convention I have presented masterclasses at the annual SWPP Convention for the last three years and really enjoy doing it but this year the stress levels were sky high!
I was just setting up for my first talk on workflow and Lightroom when the fire alarm went off and the whole of the Novatel, Hammersmith was decanted onto the street in the freezing cold; luckily I got back in before the masterclass started but it was a sign of things to come!
Next morning I thought I'd check out my next talk on slideshows with PicturestoExe. Switched on the laptop to be greeted with a screen full of jagged lines!
Now I always travel with spare copies of my slides (on CD and memory card) but not a spare PC with the right software. So panic stations. With three hours to go I borrowed a laptop (thanks Mike) but with no wireless card. Managed to coax my laptop into life and downloaded trial software then a frantic call home and talked my wife through locating the licence key, attached in to a message in her Hotmail account drafts. I then logged in and downloaded the key.
With around an hour to go I set up both laptops side by side and would you belive it managed to do the whole masterclass on my laptop.
Anyway I don't really trust it now so I can feel the credit card coming out. It took a few reviving pints afterwards to calm me down! |

15 December 2009 The Magic of Christmas Last Saturday I was commissioned to document a superb display by the Cheshire section of NAFAS (the National Association of Flower Arrnging Societies) near Chester.
The whole house was decorated, 3 floors and 12 rooms with the takings going to charity. The highlight for me was the attic where there was a tableau of Miss Haversham's bedroom from Great Expectations complete with a quilt made from flowers and realistic rats!
You can see the images in my new 'Recent Shoots' gallery |

22 July 2009 Riding the Tour climbs Just got back from an excellent cycling holiday with Marmot Tours spending a week climbing some of the classic Tour de France cols in the Pyrenees. Had a great time, just took my wife's Nikon compact as I didn't fancy hauling an extra 2 kg of camera up the hills, it was hard enough without that! Makes you realise how fit the tour riderrs are, they were climbing and descending at about twice my pace. |
